Ronaldo makes Juventus history and closes in on Serie A record

Cristiano Ronaldo is honing in on breaking yet another goalscoring record in his glittering career.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner has enjoyed a career synonymous with record-breaking and he closed on a Serie A record in Juventus' surprise loss to Hellas Verona on Saturday.

Giampaolo Pazzini's late penalty handed the home side a shock victory but Ronaldo's opening goal means he has now netted in 10 successive Serie A games - one short of the league's current record.

It was a trademark goal from the 35-year-old with pace, power, and stepovers helping him to beat the last defender in a race before slotting it through his legs and past the opposing goalkeeper.

It was the Portuguese's 20th goal of the season and surpassed David Trezeguet's Juventus record of scoring in nine successive league games. It also marked the 11th season in a row that the striker has hit 20 league goals.

Reports in Germany last week had linked Ronaldo as a potential target for Bayern Munich, however, club president Herbert Hainer appeared to rule out the move at a fan event.

Asked about a potential move for the record-breaking striker, Hainer responded: "Of course there are many names in the press, which is understandable. But Ronaldo should be a bit too old for us."

Ronaldo's current Juventus contract will expire in 2022 by which time he will be 37.
