Cristiano Ronaldo scored the opening goal for Manchester United against Tottenham in the Premier League on Saturday.

The Portuguese striker scored the 805th goal of his career for club and country. Ronaldo tied Josef Bican for the most combined goals in a career. Bican played from the 1930s to the 1950s. He kept playing until he was 42 years of age and was based in Austria and Czechoslovakia.
It was Ronaldo's 134th goal for Manchester United. That includes both spells at the club. He scored 450 goals for Real Madrid, 115 for Portugal, 101 for Juventus and five for Sporting Lisbon. At 37 years of age, Ronaldo can continue to add to this tally and become the sole holder of the record.
Whether he does so in England is another question altogether.

Ronaldo missed Manchester United's game against Manchester City last week. He was injured late in the week. Although his absence didn't help Manchester United in that game, questions about his place in the team have continued. Ronaldo's goal-scoring has dropped off lately and his finishing has come under scrutiny.
His record-breaking goal doesn't answer those questions but it certainly shows he's still capable of spectacular things. Ronaldo won't score goals like this every week, so maybe a crisp finish in the box would be more valuable. But still, Manchester United fans won't complain if he replicates this once or twice more before the end of the season.
This is ultimately now just a tribute season for Ronaldo. All he can really do now is give fans moments to remember him after he is gone. Ronaldo has scored better goals than this and he's scored more meaningful goals than this. But at such a low point for the club, few goals will have resulted in such an outlet of emotion.
