Rob Cornwall swaps Bohemians for USL newcomers Colorado Hailstorm

Rob Cornwall has become the first signing of USL expansion side, Northern Colorado Hailstorm.

The move ends a five-year stint at Bohemians, where his good looks had earned him the nickname of 'Rock Star'.

Hailstorm are managed by former Shamrock Rovers and Libya striker, Eamon Zayed and will be added to USL League One ahead of the 2022 season.

“I’m delighted to be signed and to be a part of this new exciting club, and I’m looking forward and feeling motivated for the challenges ahead,” said Cornwall.

The defender made 31 appearances for Bohs last season, helping them reach the FAI Cup final and the 3rd qualifying round of the UEFA Europa Conference League.

“I’m absolutely delighted to announce Rob Cornwall as the first player signing in Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC history,” said Zayed.

“Rob epitomizes what we are trying to build here: he has an unrelenting winning mentality, he has an unparalleled work ethic, and he has the burning ambition to win trophies and bring titles to the Northern Colorado community.

"He sets the tone for the team, and is a leader we will be able to build a championship contender around.”

Next season will see Cornwall come against teams like Charlotte Independence - formerly managed by Jim McGuinness - North Carolina FC, and Greenville Triumph, who are coached by former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder and USA international, John Harkes.

His exit continues what's expected to be something of an exodus from Dalymount Park.

Last week they announced the re-signing of eleven players, including Dawson Devoy, Ciaran Kelly, Liam Burt and Ali Coote.

But Ross Tierney has already left for Motherwell, top scorer Georgie Kelly is mulling over various offers - including one from Bohs - and captain Keith Buckley could be off to Australia.
