Ralf Rangnick to be appointed Austria's new head coach

Manchester United's interim manager Ralf Rangnick will be named the Austian national team's new head coach on Friday.

The 63-year old will replace Franco Foda who left the job in the wake of their recent World Cup playoff defeat to Wales.

The Austrian FA (OFB) want a new man in place in time for June's UEFA Nations League games with Croatia and Denmark, and that man will be Rangnick according to Kurier.

As recently as this month, the OFB denied that sports director Peter Schöttel had travelled to Manchester for talks with Rangnick.

The arrival of Erik Ten Hag as United's full-time head coach will see Rangnick move into a consultancy role with the Old Trafford club. As recently as Wednesday, Rangnick said he was looking forward to reshaping United in Ten Hag's image, “With a new manager and new approach, this is still a massively interesting club and I look forward to help Erik and everyone at the club to change the whole approach next season so Manchester United can be a top club.”

Whether Rangnick can combine his United position with the Austrian gig is likely to be confirmed on Friday.

The OFB will hold an executive committee meeting helmed by Schöttel and president Gerhard Milletich where Rangnick will be ratified as their new boss.
