Which sporting memories bring a tear to your eye?

In the OTB office, it turns out that we are a big ol' bunch of softies when it comes to sporting memories.

Yes, we know that you think that we're teak-tough football men, whose knowledge of every single sport is unparalleled and should be studied for posterity. That's a given.

But sport has the ability to hit a certain frequency, vibrating the tear ducts of even the most hard-hearted and jaded person.

With that in mind, we had a look at some of the videos that really have us reaching for the Kleenex (get your mind out of the gutter):

Hibs fans singing 'Sunshine on Leith'

This one is hard to look past. Hibernian win the Scottish Cup in 2016, beating Rangers 3-2 with a stoppage-time winner.

But that sentence tells a fraction of the story. Hibs hadn't won the Scottish Cup for 114 years. No-one in that stadium had ever witnessed this before, and it is highly unlikely that their parents had either.

The Proclaimers' 'Sunshine on Leith' was adopted by Hibernian fans as their anthem, because Craig and Charlie Reid are Hibs fans, and Easter Road is in Leith. But it is the beautiful incongruity of a mainly male crowd belting out the likes of the following, crying and hugging mates and family that really gets you:

My tears are drying, my tears are drying
Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you
My tears are drying, my tears are drying
Your beauty and kindness
Made tears clear my blindness
While I'm worth my room on this earth
I will be with you
While the Chief, puts Sunshine On Leith
I'll thank him for his work
And your birth and my birth.

Derek Redmond and his old man

It's hard to forget this one, as the perfect confluence of parental love and sporting excellence.

Britain's Derek Redmond is in the semi-final of the 400m, and halfway through pulls up with a torn hamstring. A devastating blow for any athlete that has been building towards this moment for their whole life.

But it is the moment that Derek's father, Jim, makes it onto the track to help carry his stricken son to the finish line that Derek bursts into tears.

It is a heart-wrenchingly beautiful sight.
