Galway Plate takes centre stage on day three of Summer Festival

Thetote.com Galway Plate (7.20) takes centre stage on day three of the Galway Summer Festival on Wednesday, with a maximum field of 22 and a prize pool of €250,000 up for grabs.

Heading the weights is Henry de Bromhead’s Sub Lieutenant ridden by Dylan Robinson.

Willie Mullins, who has won the feature race at Galway on Monday and Tuesday, is five-handed with Ballycasey, Koshari, Haymount, Alelchi Inois and Saturnas, the latter ridden by Ruby Walsh. Mullins, who has only won the race once with Blazing Tempo in 2011, also has Patrick's Park who is the first reserve on the racecard.

Former Cheltenham Festival winner Tully East was disappointing on his last run over hurdles at Tipperary earlier this month, but Alan Fleming will be hoping that the return to fences can reignite his eight-year-old.

Elsewhere, the Tote Irish EBF Mares Handicap Hurdle (6.10) sees a field of 23 go to post, including Punchestown victor Timetoget for Jessica Harrington. This daughter of Getaway produced an authoritative win of over three-and-a-half lengths on her latest outing and partners up with Niall Redmond once more for this two-mile contest. The JP McManus owned mare Teacher’s Pet switches back to hurdling after a fall over fences in June, and makes her first appearance with cheekpieces this time out.

Racing gets underway at Galway at 5.10pm and the going is currently yielding on the National Hunt track and soft on the Flat course.
