150/1 shot Freewheelin Dylan produces shock to land Irish Grand National

There was a massive shock in the Irish Grand National on Monday evening as 150/1 shot Freewheelin Dylan won the 3 miles 5-furlong contest.

The nine-year-old, trained by local man Dermot McLoughlin, was guided to victory at Fairyhouse by jockey Ricky Doyle.

Freewheelin Dylan led from start to finish and eventually came home ahead of the Denise Foster trained Run Wild Fred, who had Cheltenham Gold Cup-winning jockey on board, and the Ciaran Murphy trained Enjoy D'allen.

The Paul Nolan trained Latest Exhibition entered the race as favourite, going off at a starting price of 9/2.

The eight-year old, having come into the race on the back of three consecutive second-placed finished, could only manage fourth.

Many fancied Bryan Cooper to get him over the line and he carried top weight of 11 stone 10 pounds after the withdrawal of 'Tiger Roll' on Good Friday.

Earlier, the Willie Mullins trained Easy Game got back to winning ways in the Grade 2 Devenish Chase.

While Mullins also enjoyed success in the Grade 2 Hurdle with Stormy Ireland with his nephew Danny guiding home the 7/2 shot.

And the Juvenille Hurdle was won by the Noel Meade trained Jeff Kidder.
