Oaks field of 14 as O'Brien seeks Classics sweep

Pink Dogwood can help Aidan O'Brien win a fourth consecutive British Classic after she was among the 14  fillies left in the Oaks on Friday.

Dual Guineas heroine Hermosa and last year’s fillies’ mile winner Iridessa were the only withdrawals from the Oaks field at the final declaration stage for the fillies' Epsom Classic.

Irish Challenge

Aidan O’Brien is looking to continue this season’s Classic dominance with Pink Dogwood, who is currently the favourite. The Ballydoyle handler saddled a Classic double at Newmarket and a repeat could be on the cards given his firepower. Pink Dogwood would be a seventh Oaks winner for O’Brien. He also saddles Peach Tree, Fleeting and Delphinia.

Dermot Weld sends Tarnawa following her success in the Blue Wind Stakes at Naas. Were Tarnawa to oblige she would become Weld’s second Epsom fillies Classic winner. His first fittingly was Blue Wind back in 1981.

Frankie

Frankie Dettori has decided to ride Anapurna rather than Mehdaayih from the John Gosden yard. Dettori and Gosden teamed up to win the Oaks with Enable two years ago. The booking of the Italian rider caused a market shake-up, with his mount shortening in the betting. Anapurna would give Frankie a fifth Oaks success.

They go to post at 4.30 at Epsom on Friday.
