'Pogba could be next United captain' - Solksjaer

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said Paul Pogba is an option to captain the team.

The midfielder has said he'd like to look for a "new challenge" this summer - and his agent says he's working on getting the World Cup winner a move.

Marcus Rashford and James Garner were on target as United opened their pre-season with a 2-0 win over Perth Glory at the Optus Stadium.

Solskjaer, who is looking for a new skipper following the departure of Antonio Valencia, said "yeah" when asked if Pogba could potentially be the next Manchester United captain.

"So we've got quite a few possibilities there and when the season starts we'll announce [it].

"Of course we'll have a good assessment, see how pre-season goes, so there we go.

"But, as you saw, Ashley Young will wear it when he's playing until we decide on someone, yeah."

United are being heavily linked with a 80-million pounds move for Leicester and England defender Harry Maguire, having already signed Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Dan James this summer.

However, Solskjaer wasn't being drawn on their transfer plans following their pre-season game against Perth Glory.

"I think you need to speak to Ed Woodward or others," the United boss said about transfers.

"At the moment, I can't give you any updates, no.

"Well, timing is obviously an issue but we're working, as I've said before, so of course we're optimistic.

"Both the new lads did well, both Dan and Aaron," Solskjaer said while also confirming that Luke Shaw had suffered a hamstring injury.

"You had Mason Greenwood, Angel Gomes, Jimmy Garner, you know the young lads, Chongy Tahith Chong.

"I think they also showed that they can make it as a Man United player and the more experienced ones did a job because we got 45 minutes out of most and it was a professional workout from everyone."
