Paul Mannion's red card overturned on appeal

Dublin forward Paul Mannion has been cleared to play in their Leinster Senior Football Championship semi-final against Kildare on Sunday.

The Central Appeals Committee have overturned the red card he received in the Dubs' quarter-final win over Louth.

Mannion was dismissed for a challenge on Conal McKeever in the first-half at O'Moore Park and Dublin manager Jim Gavin questioned the decision in the aftermath,

"My first thoughts on it having seen it live, I thought he tackled him and the ball just popped up.

"Certainly from my perspective, it didn't warrant a red card. Possibly a yellow.

"The Louth player got up afterwards and played on, unlike Paddy Andrews. He didn't and he broke a jaw. They were completely different tackles. Paul got the ball first, probably braced himself."

The committee found that it could not be proven that the All-Star attacker was "behaving in a way which is dangerous to an opponent"

Armagh's Brendan Donaghy was unsuccessful in his appeal and will miss their Ulster semi-final replay against Cavan.

Donaghy saw red for a off the ball incident late in the drawn game at Clones last weekend and the CAC committee found the offence of "behaving in a way which is dangerous to an opponent" was proven and they upheld a one-game suspension for the Clonmore clubman.

Cavan and Armagh clash again at St Tiernach's Park this Sunday.
