Why Michael Bentt took part in Netflix's 'Losers'

If you've been watching new Netflix documentary series Losers, you'll have come across Michael Bentt's story.

In a 13-fight career, the former heavyweight boxer won the world title by beating the late Tommy Morrison in 1993.

But this was also a pro career that began and ended with defeats.

However, these days he's an actor among other ventures, appearing in Ali. Well, tonight he joined Off The Ball to tell us his compelling story.

"I resented that"

But he also explained why he leapt at the opportunity to be in a documentary titled Losers.

"I was like 'let's go for it'. Because in my experience, you don't get to a place of triumph or success without experiencing the depths of not being successful or failure," he explained.

Interestingly, despite his talent, boxing was only something he fell into in spite of his own disinterest.

"I liked the camaraderie of boxing. But I won't be told what to do and that was my father's thing," he said.

"He didn't want to teach me. He wanted to dominate me. That's a different kind of functionality. I always rejected that."

Bentt then touched on that difficult relationship with his father.

"My father always thought of me as his mascot," he said.

"Like his little trophy and I resented that."

Describing his father as charismatic, he also added that "everything had to be his way".

In the full interview, Bentt goes on to discuss the highs and lows before and after becoming world champion.
