"I still think Floyd Mayweather is more likely to lose this fight by a pulmonary embolism, tripping on the way to the ring, drowning in his spit bucket, a brain aneurysm, then Conor McGregor beating him competitively," US boxing writer Brin Jonathan Butler told Off The Ball.
"I don’t think that if Lebron James spends six months playing chess he would be competitive with Magnus Carlsen … this is just such a different sport."
"It’s no knock against McGregor and I’ve enjoyed a lot of his theatrics ... This isn’t his sport any more than I would give Floyd Mayweather a chance if he were fighting McGregor in the octagon. It’s apples and oranges," he added as the fight grows near.
While he expects Mayweather to hit 50-0 on August 26th, he thinks McGregor can go 12 rounds because Floyd may lack the power to knock him out.
Mr Butler is not expecting much of a spectacle once the much-hyped fight finally gets underway:
"We saw it with Pacquiao, his style with these things is to get us all into a frenzy, that it’s going to be different and it never is different. He lets the air out of the balloon for 12 rounds and runs away. So, all this talk that he’s going to come forward and try to knock McGregor out, that he owes the fans, I don't believe it for a second."
"He’s the most cynical exploiter of these kinds of situations that there’s ever been. He’s the most successful at doing it," he continued.
"I mean, he sold this after the kind of ‘buyer's remorse’ that emanated from Pacquiao Mayweather. It’s outstanding that he’s able to get away with it - but people are buying it. I think it’s going to break every PPV record."
The boxing journalist believes that the fight could be a hint towards a future when freakish fights will be staged on PPV:
"There’s something about this that is very strange, where I wonder if in some way it’s going to ‘antiquate’ both boxing and MMA and we’re going to see inmates rapists, and murders fighting on PPV in 20 years. It just seems like it’s scary what it’s portending."
