"We went down to Disneyland there yesterday. Jesus, the place is massive"

Irish rowing has been enjoying a stunning run of success, exemplified by the way in which the O'Donovan brothers burst into our collective consciousness after gaining silver at the Rio Olympics.

The great run of success doesn't look like ending any time soon either as we saw last Friday.

Not only did Paul O'Donovan retain his World Championship gold medal in Sarasota, having first claimed gold in Rotterdam last year, but the same colour medal went to Mark O'Donovan and Shane O'Driscoll after they won the men's lightweight pair.

As their latest achievements sink in, Mark O'Donovan and Shane O'Driscoll joined Joe from Florida where they've remained for now.

They've had a chance to sample some of the local attractions - namely Disneyland.

"We went down to Disneyland there yesterday. Jesus, the place is massive," they said, while they're trying to sort out tickets to get down to Universal.

"Everything's fairly big like, we just measure things off Skibbereen so one part was about 10 times the size of Skibbereen... and that was only the entrance."

Turning to sporting matter, the lads discussed the way they won their races and O'Driscoll highlighted the support that was there for them.

"Especially the last day anyway, and especially at this regatta, there was a massive crowd from Skibbereen over and from other parts of the country as well and the Americans themselves, they just arrived down with tricolours and they're all saying, 'We want to support the Irish' and so coming into the line, you can only imagine the noise you know," he said.

O'Donovan also touched on their performance in the final.

"It was just organised chaos really the whole way down. When you talk about my rowing, it's not one bit aesthetic when you look back at it. I don't know, it was like we were sprinting from the get-go to go across the line for the finish and Shane is still looking in form but for any rowers back home, that's not what we actually want to look like at all but it's just the way it happens," he said.

The duo have been sporting moustaches of late and when Joe asked whether they have been shaved off, the mock indignation was off the scales: "DO YOU HAVE A MOUSTACHE, JOE? THEN YOU DON'T WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT. JOE NO TACHE, NO CRAIC JOE."
