Johann Van Grann: “We’ve learnt so much from each other”

The Munster Head Coach says his coaching staff and team have learned a lot from one another since his appointment.

Van Grann says his team need to make minor adjustments ahead of a crucial period for his side.

Van Grann spoke to the media after Munster’s 48-3 victory over Castres yesterday at Thomond Park. Rasse Erasmus’ successor is pleased with his team’s progression after his first nine weeks in charge.

“We said all along we needed to get through this first nine weeks. I thought we did that pretty well as a squad, said Van Grann.

The Province have a busy period coming up after earing a home Quarter-Final tie against Toulon in Thomond Park. There is a possibility of an all-Ireland final with Leinster on the other side of the draw.

The South African says he will make minor coaching adjustments ahead of the busy schedule ahead in the Champions Cup and Pro 14 Championship.

“The coaching staff; we learned so much from each other during this past nine weeks. I learnt about the players. We might look at readjusting our plan by inches. I said from day one that it’s not about change; it’s about enhancing the Munster way.

Van Grann pointed out the intricate details that he may make look to adjust before the busy period. He believes it’s the minor adjustments that will make the difference to enhance his squad’s chances.

“So, those small little inches. Working on some of the guys cleaning, maybe some of the off-loading, defensively, breakdown and all parts of the game. Getting the guys in to better shape. After the next block there will be another break. I believe we’ve got the Scarlets then, massive game.”
