"It'd be a significant fight" - Andy Lee tells us about his hopes for what's next

The last time Andy Lee was in the ring was when he was taking on KeAndrae Leatherwood back in March at New York's Madison Square Gardens.

And that victory for the Limerick man, who recently became a father, had been his first in 15 months.

But what's next for Lee? He joined Ger in studio on Off The Ball and after discussing Carl Frampton, Katie Taylor and other boxing matters, he touched on his own plans.

"I've had a few calls and I'm just waiting to see, probably towards the end of the year, maybe November," he said, adding that he is targeting a major fight that would put him in with a shot of a title rather than a warm up bout.

"It would be a significant fight now and there's been mention of Danny Jacobs and Peter Quillin, two fights I would love to have. I think there's unfinished business with Peter Quillin and Danny Jacobs, he's just lost a very close fight to Golovkin, in a disputed decision. So it's either of those, a similar fighter or nothing."

The 33 year old believes he can still get another world title belt around his waist and that remains his ambition.

Andy Lee on the time he realised he would never be able to fight in Ireland again

"I still feel I could fight and win a world title if the opportunity presents itself, which it probably will," he said.

"I'm still a big name in the Middleweight division. I'll get back in the gym in September, that was always the plan, and hopefully fight in late November."

He also made an interesting point about how fatherhood has changed his perspective in regards to the things that really matter, also citing the recent study in regards to head injuries in the NFL and the adverse effects it has on players in the long term.

"I was listening to the radio about the report about NFL players and head injuries. Over 90% of them have brain disease due to head injuries. You do think about those things. We'll see. It has to be the right fight for me. It has to be. I've got too much to lose in life and I've done everything in boxing that I wanted to do," he said.
