Gavin James tells OTB about drive-in gigs announced for this summer

Gavin James has spoken to Off The Ball about his series of drive-in gigs announced for this summer, an initiative that will start in July.

The 28-year-old singer-songwriter announced the gigs on his Twitter account earlier today, with tickets on sale from this Friday at 9am at liveatthedrivein.ie.

The unique concert series will allow fans to watch artists live on stage while staying within government health guidelines and watching from the comfort of their car.

Gavin will appear on OTB AM tomorrow morning as the latest guest on The OTB Culture Hall of Fame in association with NOW TV - as he tells us all about his love for the Back to the Future series!

James will play four drive-in shows in all across the country - starting at the Greenpark Site in Limerick on July 24th.

Further dates will follow at the Cork Showgrounds on July 31st, the Tramore Promenade in Waterford on August 7th, and finally Gowran Racecourse on August 10th.

"Yeah, I got to finish the tour at the end of February, and then two weeks later it all stopped. Now I'm kind of going back and forth [online] to my mates in London and producing stuff.

"It was an idea a month or two ago... at the start it was more to get the crew and everybody paid because nobody has worked for months, it's shit.

"I've seen a lot of things online about how it's going to work... they've figured out a way of doing it where the speakers are going but you can tune it into your car.

"I'm going to be on the big screen behind me on stage, playing with my friend Jeff, socially distanced. And everyone in the cars will be socially distanced!

"It's more about looking after everybody in the industry, because it's been shit over the last few months. The live music industry in general is going to suffer so much.

"There's Zoom gigs a lot of people are doing in America... but for me this is about looking after people who have been the backbone of the industry.

"I was speaking to Danny from The Coronas and he's dying to do a gig... I've never released a song without backing it up with a few gigs. You don't get that feeling from a live-stream, you might get it from the cars!

"I think a lot of people are going to follow suit, people are going to start doing the same thing."
