Andy Lee: "I think Holly Holm is the only one who could probably challenge Katie Taylor"

In her own words, Katie Taylor felt last night's fight against American Jessica McCaskill was the toughest of her career to date.

But the Bray boxer came through that challenge and successfully defended her WBA World Lightweight title at York Hall, London.

Former WBO Middleweight champion Andy Lee joined us to review the fight and he picked out the impressive aspects and areas to work on from Taylor's performance as her pro career continues.

"I thought Katie clearly won and the rounds that were close, to me she was still winning the round," he said.

"Katie showed her superior skills. When she boxed, she made it easy. But at times she tried to mix it and it didn't come off the best with some of the exchanges. But for me she clearly won the fight.

"She did get caught with that left hook at one stage and had a little wobble. It was always going to happen at one stage of a career. It's the first time she's really been hurt. I was more concerned about what I've seen from her past fights which was just the lack of defence. She doesn't even consider being defensive or taking defensive posture or anything and it is worrying because she's going to continually step up in opposition and the challenges are always going to be better than the past, now that she's world champion and she's going to have to really try and improve that part of her boxing."

Lee also pointed out that the busy nature of Taylor's fight schedule means working on certain aspects of her approach between fights makes that difficult.

And he feels the two minute round format does not help Taylor's approach, with the bell going just as she is getting into a rhythm.

As for credible opponents down the line, Andy believes MMA fighter Holly Holm, who's background was boxing, is one of the few fighters who would fit the bill.

"They're going to have to find a big rival. There's talk of Holly Holm. That's a credible fight. It's not Holly Holm the MMA fighter but she was formerly a boxer so it's a credible fight. It's not like the McGregor - Mayweather fight where it's a crossover. Holly Holm is a really good boxer. There's also Heather Hardy in New York who's a featherweight but would step up, I'm sure, to fight Katie and that would be a huge fight. So they're probably the only two names and to be honest I think Holly Holm is the only one who could probably challenge Katie Taylor."
