Andy Lee on Katie Taylor: "Of the whole card - her fight was the stand-out fight"

Former Middleweight Champion Andy Lee was full of praise for Ireland's newest World Champion after Katie Taylor claimed the WBA lightweight title on Saturday night.

Lee joined Richie McCormack for Off the Ball's Sunday Paper Review and he reflected on her massive achievement in such a short space of time.

"It's a great achievement - eleven months as a professional to win a world title," he said, adding: "Sanchez was a two-weight division champion, had been a champion in a previous weight division, so was a two-time world champion and it was her toughest test to date.

"And, Sanchez landed some good punches and I'd be a bit concerned about Katie's defence. She has to go up against the other champions and some of the opponents they are proposing her to fight - she'd have to maybe address that.

"But, I think she was so hungry just to get the victory that she was eager to put on a show. Of the whole night, of the whole card - her fight was the stand-out fight. It was the most action packed and with Katie, she displayed the most skill of any boxer on the card.

"So her fight was really the stand-out fight on the night and the stand-out performance. It's a great achievement after 11 months and seven fights to become World Champion."
