“How is it Munster bias? I hate Cork” | OTB AM GAA Power Rankings

The wonderfully controversial and always entertaining Specsavers GAA Power Rankings returned to OTB AM on Tuesday morning as Eoin Sheahan was accused by Tommy Rooney of “Munster bias” for ranking Cork ahead of Meath.

Eoin ended the “Meath moaning” by moving the Royals into the top 10 of the Power Rankings - much to the surprise of Tommy Rooney.

“They stuck with a good team for 53 minutes,” was reason enough for Eoin to bump Meath up from the purgatory of 11th place.

Although Eoin did admit that he may have let mind games from the official Meath GAA Twitter account influence his judgment. “What have I done? I’ve let the Meath GAA account who has been retweeting these power rankings - the only official account to do so - get inside my head,” he said.

Abandoning his guiding principle of, “just because you’re in the Super 8’s doesn’t make you a top eight team,” Cork also moved up to eighth place in his list.

33 to 17

With none of these teams competing in the championship any longer, there was no movement for the bottom 17 teams in Eoin’s power rankings.

To nobody’s surprise, both New York and London prop up the rest of the list.

16 to nine

According to Eoin, Meath are only slightly better than Armagh at the minute and sticking with Mayo for 53 minutes is the reason behind their push up to tenth in the rankings.

He questioned his logic immediately when Tommy pointed out Armagh should have beaten Mayo in Castlebar.

The Top Eight

Eoin’s reasoning for moving Cork up to eighth place in his list was courtesy of their performance against Tyrone.

Despite losing to the Red Hand, “they pulled Tyrone apart in the first half like the Dubs did in 2017,” Eoin claimed.

Stephen Doyle wasn’t happy with Cork being marooned in eighth position, however.

He argued that the Rebels are a better team than both Galway and Connacht champions Roscommon. Meanwhile, Mayo remain in fifth place because they have a habit of playing down to their opposition.

The OTB AM Specsavers GAA Power Rankings will return next Tuesday morning for more controversial choices after the final round of Super 8’s action.
