'You're talking top six' | Warnock says Old Firm would challenge in England

Neil Warnock claims Old Firm rivals Celtic and Rangers would be able to compete at a top six level if they were playing in the Premier League.

The Middlesbrough boss, who has managed the likes of Sheffield United, Crystal Palace, and Leeds United in the past, was responding to comments from former Spurs midfielder Jamie O'Hara.

O'Hara told talkSPORT that he was of the opinion that managing Bournemouth was a bigger job than Rangers.

Warnock laughed off those claims when asked about them on BBC Radio Scotland's Sportsround.

"Listen, Bournemouth is a lovely club and it's a small club, and you probably talk about Bournemouth being a feeder club for Rangers.

"It's absolutely ridiculous, I mean he's obviously not been north of the border. It's one of them things - it gets everybody talking I suppose and have a laugh but anybody serious in football... you've got to have a laugh.

"He's obviously had a drink before he started talking. Because Celtic have been so far ahead over the last few years without any competition, I don't think that's helped Scottish football.

"But now Steven [Gerrard] has got a grip at Rangers and they're catching up gradually and there's one or two other teams that are doing reasonably well.

"I think it's a lot more even now. If you put Celtic and Rangers down in England, you're talking about the top six. Those two clubs - if they got the money that the English clubs have coming in they would spend it.

"They'd spend it on good players and they would then compete. I look at Celtic and Rangers and I don't think about Man City, and Liverpool [who] are way ahead... the rest below that, Man United, Chelsea, I think Rangers and Celtic would more than cope with that."

Celtic kicked off their attempt at winning a tenth Scottish Premiership title in a row at the weekend with a 5-1 win over Hamilton at Parkhead, while Rangers began their season with a 1-0 win at Aberdeen.
