Salah on contract: "It depends on what the club want, not on me"

Mo Salah has heaped the pressure on Liverpool's owners to agree a new contract with the free-scoring Egyptian.

The 29-year old's current deal expires at the end of next season, and talk of an extension has gone quiet despite his incredible form.

Salah has scored 12 goals in 11 appearances so far this season, including a brace away to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Teammates like Virgil Van Dijk, Fabinho, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Caoimhín Kelleher have all put pen-to-paper on new contracts in recent months - but not Salah.

"If you ask me, I would love to stay until the last day of my football career," he told Sky Sports, "But I can't say much about that - it's not in my hands.

"It depends on what the club want, not on me.

"At the moment I can't see myself ever playing against Liverpool. That would make me sad. It's hard, I don't want to talk about it, but it would make me really sad.

"At the moment I don't see myself playing against Liverpool but let's see what will happen in the future."

Salah's form this season has been such that he's now being spoken about as the world's best player.

“Come on, who is better than him?" said manager Jurgen Klopp after his dazzling display against Watford last week, "We don’t have to talk about what Messi and Ronaldo have done for world football and their dominance but, right now, he is the best.

“His performance was massive. The pass for the first goal was great and the second goal was special. He is top, we all see it.”
