Ronaldo pens emotional farewell to club he no longer wanted to play for

Despite having a year left on his contract and informing them he didn't want to play for them anymore, Cristiano Ronaldo has penned a farewell to Juventus.

The 36-year old is set to sign a two-year contract at Manchester United.

As both United and Manchester City hovered, Ronaldo told Juventus head coach Massimiliano Allegri on Thursday that he no longer wanted to play for the Turin club.

"Things change, it's a law of life. Juventus remains, which is the most important thing. Cristiano gave his contribution, he made himself available, now he leaves and life goes on.

"Cristiano is to be thanked for what he has done, also as an example amongst the youngsters. But as I said, we must go on."

Ronaldo had spent four seasons with Juve, winning two Serie A titles, a Coppa Italia, but failing to help them land the Champions League.

As he waited to cross the I's and dot the T's of his move to United, the Portugal skipper said his farewells to the Bianconeri on Instagram:

"Today I depart from an amazing club, the biggest in Italy and surely one of the biggest in all of Europe. I gave my heart and soul for Juventus and I’ll always love the city of Turin until my final days. The “tifosi bianconeri” always respected me and I tried to thank that respect by fighting for them in every game, every season, every competition. In the end, we can all look back and realize that we achieved great things, not all that we wanted, but still, we wrote a pretty beautiful story together.

“Juve, storia di un grande amore
Bianco che abbraccia il nero
Coro che si alza davvero
Juve per sempre sara…”

I will always be one of you. You are now part of my history, as I feel that I’m part of yours. Italy, Juve, Turin, tifosi bian, you’ll always be in my heart."
