Relegated twice, but Aaron Ramsdale is Arsenal's new €35m keeper

Arsenal have agreed a deal with Sheffield United to sign goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.

It's reported that the 23-year old will cost up to £30million (€35.25m).

News of the deal comes on the same day Arsenal wrapped up a €40million permanent deal for Real Madrid's Norwegian playmaker Martin Odegaard.

Mikel Arteta has been busy in the transfer market this summer, splashing out €59million on Ben White, and a further €17.5m on Anderlecht's Albert Sambi Lokonga.

Arsenal have been on the tail of Ramsdale for some time, and have finally gotten their man for an initial £24million with another £6million to come in potential add-ons.

The England international has agreed a four-year deal with the option of a fifth, and will compete with Bernd Leno for the role of first-choice goalkeeper.

The Ramsdale deal comes a year after Arsenal sold Emiliano Martinez to Aston Villa for €23.5million. Martinez has since established himself as one of the better goalkeepers in the Premier League, is now Argentina's no.1 and won the Copa America with his country in the summer.

By contrast, Ramsdale has been relegated from the Premier League in each of the past two seasons.

He was a near ever-present as Bournemouth finished third from bottom, conceding 65 goals in the process.

Ramsdale then returned to his childhood club, Sheffield United who finished bottom of the Premier League last season.

He started both of United's first two Championship games this season, but was left out of the squad for Wednesday night's trip to West Brom.

Arsenal hope to have both Ramsdale and Odegaard registered in time for Sunday's Premier League game with Chelsea.
