Mendy refused bail as he awaits trial for rape and sexual assault

Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy has been denied bail yet again as he awaits trial for rape and sexual assault.

The 27-year old was arrested in August of this year, charged with the rape of two women and the sexual assault of a third.

Mendy was not present for Monday's bail hearing, as he remains remanded in custody at Altcourse prison in Liverpool. The latest bail refusal was the France international's third.

The former Monaco defender is to face trial on January 24, 2022.

Mendy is accused of three counts of rape at his home address in October 2020. A further rape charge stems from an incident in August of this year. He's also facing a charge of sexual assault from January of 2021.

He was suspended by Manchester City immediately after his arrest in August.

Mendy joined the Premier League side from Monaco in 2017 for €57.5million. He's gone on to make 75 appearances for City, scoring 2 goals along the way.

His co-defendant - Louis Saha Matturie (40) - is facing four charges of rape.

No pleas have been entered in the case. One of Mendy's representatives - Christopher Stables - previously said that his client strenuously denies the allegations.

His barrister Eleanor Laws QC said there would be an application to dismiss charges at a hearing on November 15.
