Liverpool confirm the departure of midfielder Grujic

Liverpool midfielder Marko Grujic has completed his move to FC Porto after five years at Anfield.

The Serbia international returns to the Portuguese club for a fee in the region of €12 million after making 39 appearances during a loan spell last season.

Grujic was Jürgen Klopp’s first signing as Reds manager when he agreed a move from Red Star Belgrade in January 2016 before arriving later that year.

The 25-year-old featured in eight games during his debut season with Liverpool and six more in 2017-18, and then joined Cardiff City on loan for the second half of the campaign.

Grujic also spent two seasons on loan with Hertha Berlin before returning to Liverpool at the start of the 2020/21 season.

He was involved in two League Cup ties in the early stages of last season, scoring his first goal for the club in the 7-2 win at Lincoln City, ahead of his switch to Porto.

Grujic joined up with Klopp’s squad in Austria for the pre-season training camp but will now link up with Porto.

There are several more departures expected at the club with Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi set make his move to Union Berlin permanent.

There is also interest in Xherdan Shaqiri, Nat Phillips, Divock Origi and Welsh internationals Harry Wilson and Neco Williams.

Ibrahima Konate is the only new arrival to Liverpool so far this summer but it would be a surprise if Klopp didn't add to his squad, especially after the departure of Gini Wijnaldum.
