Jurgen Klopp | "I never thought it was possible" to equal City's record

Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool are just four wins away from winning a first league title in 30 years after recording their 18th consecutive league win.

The German's side came from behind to beat West Ham 3-2 at Anfield, equalling Manchester City's record of 18 straight wins in the Premier League.

Liverpool have dropped only two points this season and that was at Old Trafford against Manchester United back in October.

City were known as the ‘Centurions’ in 2018 when they hit the 100-point mark but if Liverpool win seven of their last eleven league games this season, they will equal City’s record.

Klopp said after the win over West Ham: "I couldn't have wished for a better position to go into these last 11 games.

"I never thought it was possible but each one of (the victories are) really difficult.

"I said at the beginning we want to write our own stories, create our own history.

"Obviously, the boys took that really seriously and that is all cool but just not too important at the moment.

"It's so special. The numbers are incredible, so difficult. We are just in the situation and want to recover and prepare for the next game."

A numbers game

Liverpool's main aim is to end their 30-year wait for a league title but Jurgen Klopp's have a chance to break several records in doing so.

Liverpool are on course to record the biggest title-winning margin set by City in 2018 when Pep Guardiola's side had 19 points to spare.

Should Liverpool pick up 22 points from their final 11 games, they would also surpass the 100 points City won the title with in 2018.

Liverpool could have the title wrapped up with eight games to spare which would break the record currently shared by Manchester United (2000/01) and Manchester City (2017/18).

It's clearly a case of when Liverpool win the league and it looks like they will do so earlier than any other previous Premier League winner.

The record was set by Manchester United in 2001 when they were crowned champions by April 14th.
