Guardiola: Right now this is the worst City team I've managed

Pep Guardiola has issued a stark warning to his quadruple-chasing Manchester City players.

The City boss claims - at the moment - his squad is "the worst" he's overseen during his five-years in Manchester.

City will look to book a place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League on Tuesday night. They lead Borussia Monchengladbach 2-0 ahead of their nominal home tie in Budapest's Puskas Arena.

Oleksandr Zinchenko was asked earlier in the day if City can hoover up the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup this season, replying, "Of course.

"Bayern showed last year. They won everything, right?

"Barcelona did it as well the other year with Pep and I think of course everything is possible.

"We've got an unbelievable squad, the best players in the world. Why not?"

Asked if he agreed with his Ukrainian full-back, Guardiola replied, "Right now, it [the team] is worse than the previous ones as those teams won the lot and they’ve won nothing this year.

"We are waiting for results, titles we can lift, that’s why the previous Man City won and this team still have to prove it."

City have lost just once in 31 games, fuelling confidence that they could finally bring home the prize that's eluded them - despite massive spending - in recent years.

"I want them to be hungry to win tomorrow, their desire to win tomorrow but no further than that," Guardiola said.

“It normally happens when you win games, that helps the mood in the locker room, when the situation is bad there are injuries but when good there are few injuries.

"Everyone is ready to play and that’s good and we are going to try until the end in this way."

Guardiola insists progress in the Champions League is hugely important to the club, adding, "What we’ve done in the past is good but doesn’t mean it will happen tomorrow. Every game is different, let’s try to minimise the mistakes, we know how they punish us.

“I have respect for Marco [Rose], they have weapons and quality.

"I know their history but part of that is travelling there to win the game, I want to see them win the game.”
