Ex-Cork City winger Kieran Sadlier swapping Rotherham for Bolton

Rotherham United have confirmed they've accepted a bid from League One rivals Bolton Wanderers for Kieran Sadlier.

The former Cork City winger joined The Millers from Doncaster in August of 2020, scoring seven times in 36 apperances.

Sadlier has started in just five of his twelve appearances this season for Rotherham, who currently sit third in the League One table.

Bolton boss Ian Evatt said, "Kieran is a player we tried to sign in the summer and it didn’t happen.

“We tried to sign him again at the start of this window and it didn’t look like it was going to happen and then we’ve managed to get it done and over the line. I think he’s delighted and we’re delighted.

“He’s used to winning football matches. He’s been a big part of the Rotherham team that is doing really well in this division.

“He’s a goalscorer at this level, who can play in a number of positions and it’s a no-brainer for us.

“He’s a player that improves us and makes us better, which we are trying to do in this window.”

Sadlier's move to Bolton comes as another League of Ireland alumnus is on the verge of a move to Rotherham.

The Irish Independent reported on Thursday night that the 2021 PFAI Player of the Year Georgie Kelly was on his way to the AESSEAL New York Stadium.

Kelly was the SSE Airtricity Premier Division's top scorer with 21 goals last season, and attracted interest from both sides of Hadrian's Wall. He'd informed Bohemians, and other domestic suitors, that he wished to pursue his options abroad.

Kelly's signing to Rotherham will maintain a strong Irish presence at the club, despite Sadlier's departure.

They're already home to Republic of Ireland international Chiedoze Ogbene, and U21 striker JJ Kayode.
