Dundalk star Dean Jarvis departs after two years at Oriel Park

Dundalk have announced the departure of 27-year-old left-back Dean Jarvis, after two years with the north-east club.

The Derry native spent two years at Oriel Park, winning two SSE Airtricity Premier Division titles.

Jarvis also picked up FAI Cup, EA Sports Cup, President’s Cup and Unite the Union Champions Cup medals.

His next club has not been confirmed, but it's understood Jarvis wants to move closer to home.

Jarvis paid tribute to the Lilywhites' supporters in a statement on the club's official website today.

“I would like to thank the staff the fans and especially the players for making the past two years the best in my career to date. The success and memories we all had together are something I’ll never forget. All the best going forward to everyone and thank you all,” said the 27-year-old.

Jarvis scored in the penalty shoot-out in their EA Sports Cup final win over Derry City. The match had finished 2-2 after normal time at the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium.

Head Coach Vinny Perth paid tribute to the defender on news of his departure, pointing out that his young family was one of the reasons behind his exit.

“I want to wish Dean all the best. Unfortunately, Dean has decided to move closer to home to be closer to his young family. We wish him well.

"He has been an integral part of the league winning squad over the past two years. We wish him well in his future career and he will always be welcome back at Oriel Park.

“In his time a the club he has won two league titles, an FAI Cup, a League Cup and a Unite The Union Champions Cup. It has been a very successful time for Dean at the club and we wish him the very best. He will always be a friend of the squad.”
