The Ghana Football Association have confirmed that Chris Hughton is the national team's new technical advisor.

The former Republic of Ireland defender is part of a four-man management team tasked with getting the Black Stars to the World Cup in Qatar.

Hughton had been part of a tortuous process to appoint a successor to Milovan Rajevac, who was sacked after a poor showing at the Africa Cup of Nations. Ghana finished bottom of their group, with a draw against Gabon providing their solitary point.

Borussia Dortmund assistant Otto Addo will lead the new management team.

Ghana have home and away games with Nigeria next month, as they seek to qualify for Qatar 2022.

Oddo won 15 caps for Ghana as a player, and began his coaching career as assistant coach at Hamburg, and was previously his country's head scout.

Also joining the Black Stars' management team are former Aston Villa and Middlesbrough midfielder, George Boateng, and Mas-Ud Didi Dramani who was a former Ghana women's coach, and head coach at Danish team, Nordsjælland.

Hughton has been out of management since leaving Nottingham Forest after a poor start to the Championship season. The 63-year old previously guided Newcastle and Brighton to promotion to the Premier League.

His father, Terry, hailed from Ghana and he qualified for the Republic of Ireland through his mother, Christine.

There have been several reports in the Ghanaian media that Hughton will try and tempt Premier League stars like Callum Hudson-Odoi and Tariq Lamptey to declare for the country.
