Bohemians give formal recognition to club Disability Supporters Association

Bohemians have formally recognised the Bohs Disability Supporters Association (DSA).

The supporters group is an independent body that is the voice of Bohs fans with a disability.

The Bohs DSA will work closely with the club’s Disability and Social Inclusion Access Officer, James Flanagan with the aim of improving accessibility and inclusion at the club, while also working with all relevant parties to ensure the new Dalymount will be accessible to all for generations to come.

The Bohs DSA is believed to be the first such group in the country.

Bohemians have won plaudits for their efforts away from the pitch in recent years.

In January, the Phibsborough club appointed Sean McCabe as Climate Justice Officer.

Back in 2019, they partnered with the National Council for the Blind to provide a live commentary service for visually impaired fans visiting Dalymount.

The phrase 'Refugees Welcome' replaced main sponsor Des Kelly Interiors on their away jersey for the 2020 season, with that shirt carried over to the new campaign. They donated profits from the jersey's sales to those in direct provision.

Bohs have spent the past few years working closely with Movement Of Asylum Seekers Ireland (MASI).

The new Bohs DSA was given formal recognition by club president Chris Brien and team manager Keith Long via a Zoom conference.

DSA member Paul Dwyer said, "I believe as part of Ireland’s first DSA I can help make simple changes that make football accessible for anyone and everyone who wishes to enjoy it regardless of a physical or intellectual disability."

While Bohs Chief Operating Officer Daniel Lambert added, "This is a fantastic new addition to our supporters clubs - a group that is comprised of people living with or affected by a disability and their family members.

"They know better than anyone what measures we can take to make our club the most inclusive and accessible environment possible.

"We look forward to engaging with them and working closely together, and congratulations to them on establishing the first DSA in Ireland."
