'Not good enough' | David De Gea on Manchester United's trophy drought

Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea says their trophy drought is 'not good enough'.

They exited the Champions League last night following a 1-nil loss to Atletico Madrid at Old Trafford.

Renan Lodi's goal was the difference, as the Spanish side advanced 2-1 on aggregate from their last 16 tie.

It means Manchester United will, for a fifth season in succession, finish without a trophy.

De Gea addressed the club's barren spell in his post-match interview.

"Of course, it's not good enough, it's hard," he told BT Sport.

"It's hard for the club, for us, for the fans. Where we are at the moment, it's a difficult situation and we need to keep fighting, keep trying our best, but it's a tough moment.

"I feel sad. I feel sad for the fans."

The Spaniard admitted that his side's performance over the two legs didn't justify a place in the quarter-finals.

"It's difficult to describe with words how we feel right now at the moment, we did not enough in both games to win both games.

"We were not at our best to be honest. A very disappointing day for us.

"As soon as they scored a goal, they put the whole team in front of Oblak,"

"10 players there, very defensive team, it's very difficult to score goals against them.

"They are a team with a lot of experience, they know how to play those games, Champions League games, tight games, they scored the goal and its a very defensive team so it was very difficult for us to create chances.

"We tried until the end but it wasn't enough to score a goal. I don't want to say anything on the referee. I think everyone watched it. This is football, we didn't do enough."

United's attention will now turn to qualifying for next year's competition via the Premier League, though they don't play again until the 2nd of April.
