'It's definitely a PR disaster for Limerick'

Listen to the full interview above which includes the Limerick Post’s Sports Editor Donn O’Sullivan on the situation

Earlier today the Limerick county board signaled its disappointment at the departure of joint-senior hurling manager Donal O'Grady.

The Corkman who only joined the Limerick setup alongside TJ Ryan in November walked away after comments that he and his management team had apologized for their performance against Offaly in the league were not retracted publicly.

To learn more about the situation from the players' point of view, we spoke to recently retired Limerick centre-forward Niall Moran.

He told us that it is disappointing that Limerick were highlighting their troubles.

"It's something that should have been done in-house. It should have been low-key," said Moran, acknowledging the level of disappointment about performances in the league after a strong 2013.

From there the situation took a "sinister twist" according to Moran. The disagreements centered over comments regarding the league being "abysmal" and supposed apologies from the Limerick management team.

O'Grady wanted a retraction of those comments over a week ago but why was this not acted upon immediately by the board?

"The least that the management deserved was an apology. It was very easy for the county board to say that the press had picked it up wrong. It's definitely a PR disaster for Limerick. It shouldn't be coming into the public domain and there should have been a retraction straight away. It should have been nipped in the bud very early," said Moran.
