Murray laments 'frustrating' performance as he exits Australian Open

Andy Murray says his performance against Taro Daniel was 'especially disappointing'.

After an encouraging win over 21st seed Nikoloz Basilashvili in the first round, Murray's campaign came to an abrupt end this morning in Melbourne.

He suffered a straight sets defeat to Japanese qualifier Daniel, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4.

Plagued by injury in recent years, Murray says losing at this stage is tough to take.

"When you know you've not got many years left it is frustrating," he said after the game.

"I put a lot into the off-season for practicing and preparing, hopefully to not play like that in the big tournaments.

"So it is especially disappointing when you perform like that."

With his hip a major concern following surgery, he said his physical condition had no impact on the outcome of the match.

"That was probably the only positive I can take from today," he said, when asked about how he felt physically.

"The match in the first round was a long one but I was happy with how I pulled up from it."

"After a good win in the first round I created an opportunity for myself. It was probably a match I should win and I didn't take that chance," Murray continued.

"I was not able to sustain a good enough level for long enough, whereas he was solid throughout.

"I'm obviously very disappointed with that."

Elsewhere today, second seed Daniil Medvedev made his way through to the third round.

He overcame Australia's Nick Nick Kyrgios in four sets.

In the women's draw, Emma Radacanu exited the tournament.

She lost out to Montenegro's Danka Kovinic in three sets.

Radacanu was hampered by blisters on her hand throughout the course of the match in Melbourne.
