Malakai Fekitoa will be a Munster player next season, it's finally been confirmed by the province.

The former All Black will transfer from Gallagher Premiership side, Wasps, whom he joined from Toulon in 2019.

Fekitoa is likely to replace Damien de Allende at Munster, with the Springbok international's contract expiring in June and with no sign of an extension.

The Tongan-born centre is no stranger to Irish supporters. He scored a pair of tries for New Zealand in a 21-9 win over Ireland at the Aviva Stadium in 2016.

He was also part of the Toulon team that lost to Munster in a 2018 Champions Cup quarter-final at Thomond Park. However, he missed both of Wasps' games with Munster this season due to a shoulder injury.

He's has signed a two-year deal with Munster.

Fekitoa will leave Wasps this summer, as will former Leinster out-half Jimmy Gopperth.

The centre told the Wasps website, "Thank you to everyone here at Wasps for these three incredible years, full of learning, new challenges, friendships and unforgettable experiences.

“It has been a great honour to represent this proud Club. I feel very lucky to have been part of this team.

“There’s still a long season ahead and I am going to give everything I’ve got until the last game.”

Wasps head coach Lee Blackett added, "We will always remember Malakai for being a model professional, who gave his all whenever he has pulled on a Black and Gold shirt.

“It was great to have Malakai back out on the field at the weekend, he will continue to bring a lot to the squad for the remainder of the season.

“Everyone at Wasps would like to wish Malakai, Claudia and all his family the best for the future.”
