Mourinho-like Conte would be better at Manchester United | Marcotti

Manchester United are a club more suited to Antonio Conte than Tottenham, according to Gabriele Marcotti.

After the sacking of Nuno Espirito Santo on Monday, former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has emerged as the frontrunner for the job.

It isn't the first time the Italian has been linked with a move to the London club, with Conte turning down the offer earlier this year because of reported differences of opinion with Daniel Levy when it came to his demands.

The timing of his imminent move to the club is made all the more strange given the fragile nature of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's tenure at Manchester United.

Speaking on Off The Ball, Italian football writer Gabriele Marcotti said that the Manchester club are much more likely to give Conte what he wants as a manager. More.

"Conte left Inter because he was told there would be a whole bunch of money to invest, he found out after winning the title they were going to sell two out of his three best players", Marcotti said.

"He left Chelsea because he wanted a whole bunch of new players, he thought Roman Abramovich being a billionaire, he should spend some of that money"

"He left Juventus for pretty much the same thing reason."

"There's no question that he will always push for more spending and more resources and for things to be his own way."

"But there's also no question that when he gets those resources, he delivers."

Where is he more likely to get resources? It's not from the notoriously shrewd Daniel Levy, but the notoriously not-shrewd, Manchester United.

"Resources aren't really a problem at Manchester United."

"If there was a team where he could go in and bring in some new, good players, it's Manchester United, not Tottenham"

The club announced on Monday that Santo and his coaching staff Ian Cathro, Rui Barbosa and Antonio Dias have been relieved of their duties.

Fabio Paratici, Managing Director of Tottenham, said in the statement released by the club: "I know how much Nuno and his coaching staff wanted to succeed and I regret that we have had to take this decision.

Nuno was placed under increasing pressure following a string of poor performances, most notably by Spurs' captain Harry Kane.

The Portuguese manager came into the club to replace Jose Mourinho, who was fired in April this year after a 2-2 draw with Everton.

The former Wolves manager eventually called in to take over the role at Spurs after the club failed to bring in a number of managers, including Julian Naglesmann, Brendan Rodgers, Erik ten Hag, Mauricio Pochettino, Antonio Conte, Paulo Fonseca and Rino Gattuso.

Currently sitting at eighth on the Premier League table, Spurs have only managed five wins this season under Nuno. It is understood that the former goalkeeper's position was not severely under threat heading into the previous weekend.
