Leeds need more action than words from Jesse Marsch - John Giles

Jesse Marsch has to make big changes at Leeds if they are going to avoid another relegation battle, says John Giles.

John Giles believes Leeds United must get better and Jesse Marsch needs to take action instead of just talking.

Leeds United are 18th in the Premier League.

They have lost four of their last five games and drawn the other. At this stage of the season, they are firmly in a relegation battle. The same relegation battle that got Marcelo Bielsa sacked last season. And now there are only three games before the World Cup break, including away trips to Liverpool and Tottenham.

Leeds are in a precarious position and Jesse Marsch knows it. He spoke this week about how sick he is of not scoring goals and not winning games, despite his belief that they are often the better team in their games.

John Giles wasn't impressed with Marsch's diatribe about the state of the team.

"He's the manager, he's the coach, he's looking after the team," Giles said.

"You can't just say when you're in that position 'This is what we're not doing. We're conceding goals and we're not making goals.' We all know that. What's he going to do about it? That's what the team want to know. The players want to know. The fans want to know."

Marsch's job security at Leeds will come into focus if the performances continue to flounder. Results are not going their way and Marsch was hired for results, since Bielsa was popular for his playing style. Marsch isn't concerned. His relationship with the board is good. But Giles knows that doesn't always matter.

Results will ultimately determine if Marsch stays in the job.

"It's big trouble, but he has said publicly he gets along well with the owners and he's not worried about being sacked. You know we've heard all that before. They've got to pick it up, there's no doubt. Last week was very, very poor against Fulham. Fulham played well.

"But they're certainly in big trouble. The crowd are onto him. The crowd are having a go at him, which is always a bad sign as we know."

Eddie Howe has no shame.
