Manchester United won't rush into January signings despite "worst" performance of Solskjaer era

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says their performance in last night's Carabao Cup defeat to Manchester City was the worst since he took over but he insists the club won't panic buy this month.

They were outplaying in losing the first leg of their semi-final 3-1 at Old Trafford and it's expected that the Red Devils will now look to strengthen their squad during this transfer window.

"We are a young team and with the injuries we've had and illness it shows more and that's something we are looking at," Solskjaer said when asked about his squad in the wake of the City defeat.

"If there is something there for us I've got the backing to do something but if it is not the right thing we won't do anything".

The Norwegian also admitted it will take some time to catch up with City and current Premier League leaders Liverpool.

"I've said before it's not going to be a quick fix, the two teams you are talking about are two of the best teams in the world.

"That's the task we've started and you can see we are still a way off but we've started something that needed doing.
