Manchester United unlikely to spend big in January - Solskjaer

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer doesn't expect his squad to change much between now and the end of the season.

His team is tenth in the Premier League, eighteen points behind their rivals - and league leaders - Liverpool.

Solskjaer says despite their slow start to the season he can't see major incomings in the next transfer window:

“The priority now is to get the players fit and get to the next round. We always look at the long term with transfers, it might be none, might be one, might be two in January. It’s always the summer...you can’t really do too many big deals in January.

“I think this team is improving and the longer time we get together, the more we will improve. It’s not just about this competition. We’ve come through this period since the last break with some good performances and more belief.

“I can see the improvement in these kids more and more. We need the experienced lads. Paul, we’ve got Anthony back and hopefully we’ll have Luke back soon, Eric will be back soon.”

The United boss is hoping that Marcus Rashford and the fit-again Anthony Martial can form a strong partnership up front:

“Anthony is a vital player for us. He’s got different attributes to Marcus, Dan and Jesse. He can hold the ball up for us, you’ve got players making runs in behind. Anthony’s been missed in training as well. When he’s in a good mood, it affects other people.

“Marcus, I think he’s developed. He’s 22 but he’s experienced in his career. I made my debut for Molde then and you think ‘wow, he can reach the top.’

“Anthony’s playing as a No.9 and Marcus has been playing wide. It was a decision that we made when Anthony was away that Marcus would play through the middle.”
