Lewandowski's fist-fight with Coman and the "lingering discontent" this season

Just as things were looking rosy in the garden for Bayern Munich, reports emerged about a training ground fight involving star striker Robert Lewandowski.

Of course, training ground fights are far from uncommon in football and tend to be brushed off swiftly. But this one got a little nasty.

German tabloid Bild reported that Lewandowski and winger Kingsley Coman got into a fist-fight.

Ultimately, the two had to be separated by team-mates. It comes at a time when Bayern had hauled themselves back on top of the Bundesliga in spectacular fashion.

Last Saturday, they thrashed direct title rivals Borussia Dortmund 5-0 to leapfrog them back to the summit.

Journalist and commentator Rob Daly joined us on the Football Show to discuss the situation and Lewandowski's future.

"It wouldn't be the first time that Lewandowski's been accused of being involved in a training ground altercation," he explained.

Not the first time

"Something similar reportedly happened with Mats Hummels at the back end of last season. Regardless of the extent of how bad that fight was, it's just an unnecessary distraction for Bayern.

"Because all in all, it's been a fantastic week for them after the 5-0 over Borussia Dortmund. Look, I'm sure they'll get over it. Apparently, Nico Kovac after the altercation between Kovac and Lewandowski let them continue in the training session. That is what Bild the German tabloid is reporting. Sometimes these things happen. Maybe just because a journalist catches it in their eyeline, they think it's a big deal.

"But it does seem to be a bit of a nasty one if reports are true between Coman and Lewandowski. Coman's a young player of course and is only 22. But I'm sure that they'll work through it."

The incident also follows the end of last season when Lewandowski's future at Bayern wasn't 100% clear.

"There's been a bit of discontent lingering around Lewandowski anyway going back to last season where it was reported that he wanted to leave," he said.

"He wasn't happy with the transfer policy where the club hadn't spent more than £35 million on any player in their history. He felt they were lagging behind the big boys, particularly of the Premier League.

"They're doing that now and are spending €50-70 million on players for next season."
