John Kiely: 'I've no time for self-indulgence or pity'

Limerick manager John Kiely has said his team has "no choice" but to accept a controversial decision at the end of their All-Ireland hurling semi-final against Kilkenny which would have seen them get a '65 in the dying minutes.

The sliotar appeared to have been blocked by Kilkenny's Cillian Buckley from a sideline cut from Darragh O'Donovan before going out of play - however, a puck-out was the decision given by the officials. The Treaty lost the game in Croke Park by a point, on a scoreline of 1-21 to 2-17.

After the game, however, John Kiely was not criticising the officials for the decision, "by all accounts, it was a 65. But, it wasn't spotted, we didn't get it. So, that's that.

"There's no point spending the next day, week or month thinking about that. It's gone. And we can't undo it. It's just part and parcel of life. We go again next year.

"We've no choice, anything else is self-indulgence and pity and I've no time for either of the two of them. So, I think we've only one choice - we go away, we regroup and we take the time to get our bodies back in shape. We let the lads go back to their clubs.

"This defeat will pass in time, the pain of it will pass in time. We'll probably reference it at some stage down the road as a re-building point for us as a group. I know the lads are fantastically committed to the job they're doing as players, they're fantastically committed to the group that they are with.

"They're very loyal to each other. They have great fun together. They've grown up together almost. I've no doubt that they will find a way to come back, and to redouble their efforts to challenge again in the future."

Kilkenny will now meet either Tipperary or Wexford in next month's All-Ireland Hurling Final.
