Jamie Carragher gives damning verdict of Seamus Coleman

Seamus Coleman has been described as anchoring a "Championship-level" defence by Jamie Carragher.

The Republic of Ireland captain endured a chastening night in North London, with Everton finding themselves 3-0 down to Everton by half-time.

Coleman started on the right of a back-three that also contained England international Michael Keane, and Mason Holgate.

Despite their experience, Everton were carved open time and again at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with a Keane own goal opening the scoring.

Heung Min Son added a second just three-minutes later, and Coleman's international teammate Matt Doherty set Harry Kane up for Spurs' third eight-minutes before the break.

"When we talk about a team... being too good to go down," Carragher said at half-time, "Well that's because we look at Everton's strikers - Richarlison, Calvert-Lewin - this back-four is a Championship back-four.

"There's absolutely no doubt about this whatsoever.

"Seamus Coleman - I actually feel sorry for him - he's been a great full-back for Everton, but right now this is happening far too much, where people are just running in behind him.

"And that goes back to Everton's recruitment, that Seamus Coleman's still playing right now."

Speaking before Monday night's game, Frank Lampard had lamented the lack of availability of the likes of Yerry Mina and Ben Godfrey, with both out injured.

By contrast to Coleman, Doherty set up two of Spurs' goals on Monday night, continuing his return to form under Antonio Conte.
