Zach Tuohy landmark as Geelong down Port Adelaide

Zach Tuohy marked his 198th AFL appearance by helping Geelong crush Port Adelaide by 91 points to 31 in their top of the ladder clash this afternoon.

By moving onto 198 appearances, the Laois-native defender has become the second most capped Irish player in the AFL, though he's still 49 matches behind Melbourne legend Jim Stynes.

Tom Hawkins scored six goals and laid on two for teammates as the Cats demolished the Premiership leaders by 60-points at Metricon Stadium.

It moves Geelong, for whom Mark O'Connor played in midfield today, up to second-place on the ladder and they now trail Port Adelaide by four-points.

For Tuohy, who has been in Australia since joining Carlton as a teenager a decade ago, the AFL season restart has meant being away from his young family for up to three months:

"The options are real clear for a player like me," he told the GPA podcast about players isolating with their teammates.

"It's either I don't play and go back to my family, which some players will actually take as the season goes on - or I stay and play out the season because I'm not really prepared to not play with the lads, they're my team.

"If push came to shove, our club would understand a parent wanting to go home to their kids, there's no pressure from the club. But we're fully aware that we can't have half the list going home because the season would collapse.

"I have to be careful not to sound like I'm complaining, there are lots of sports where the season has just been cancelled, but I've got two kids at home that I'm probably not going to see for three months now.

"The argument over this side of the world is, 'Well, it's your job', and I'm like, 'Well, I'm sorry, but my job has never been to be away for that long, it's nowhere in my contract that that's my job'.

"I'm doing it because it's in the best interests of the game. That's why all the players are doing it"
