What's on TV tonight? | The best-ever football film and a Munster vs Leinster classic

If you're looking for distraction, there's plenty of quality stuff to watch on tv tonight (or to record and squirrel-away for the rest of the week).

As you might expect - it's a bit of a nostalgia-fest...

Throw-back rugby (TG4 7:15pm)

TG4 is offering a rare chance to re-live a pivotal moment in the history of Irish professional rugby as Leinster and Munster went toe-to-toe in the 2001 Celtic League (which eventually became the Pro14) final in front of a packed Lansdowne Road.

It was the match which kick-started the modern Munster/Leinster rivalry.

Here's a taste of who you can expect to see - on the Leinster-side: O'Driscoll, D'Arcy, Dempsey, Hickie and O'Kelly.

While Munster featured O'Gara, Quinlan, Foley and O'Connell.

Damned United (00:15)

Despite its global popularity, association football is a sport notoriously under-represented by quality films.

Setting aside those that fit into the brackets of documentaries (Speaking of which, Maradona is still on the Channel 4 app - if you've not watched it, do yourself a favour) or good-bad films (the Goal series, Escape to Victory etc) - Damned United is a rare brilliant football film.

Michael Sheen leads the charge with a magnetic depiction of Brian Clough.

* One caveat here, the book and film's accuracy was keenly disputed by Irish football legend John Giles - who said the depiction of him portrayed his as a "scheming leprechaun," and ultimately pursued legal action to set the record straight.

So it's worth bearing in mind that some creative licence was taken here.

More football

That's on after the BBC's continuation of the repurposing of its Match of the Day 'Top 10 podcast,' to scratch your Saturday night football itch (BBC1, 10:25pm).

This week Gary Lineker, Ian Wright and Alan Shearer rate their top 10 PL imports - begging the question, where should Roy Keane feature on that list?

After that wraps it's followed by 'Match of Their Day,' (BBC1 11:15pm) as Ian Wright revisits some classics from his career (which rolls into Damned United if you want to make a night of it!).

As ever, the OTB YouTube channel is also open for business, you can watch-back Mario Rosenstock's chat with John Duggan or our usual Saturday football show.
