Watch: Shane Lowry reflects on emotional week after Open win

Shane Lowry sat down with Bank of Ireland to talk about his British Open victory and his emotional homecoming.

Close to 20,000 people turned up to greet Lowry in his hometown of Clara on Tuesday evening, which clearly meant a lot to him.

"It's a small town, like a one-street town. It's got some great people, great characters and it's a place that I always feel like I can go and get away from things," said the 2019 Open champion.

"My dad would have borrowed money to buy me golf clubs. I'm sure he and my mum fell out a little bit over it when it came to my golf at times. I know for a fact though that I wouldn't be here without them today."

His brother Alan Lowry also spoke about what the moment meant to him and his family.

"It means so much, you know seeing my mam, dad and my sister being there with him on the green, it was just so emotional," said Alan Lowry.

"You know every sportsperson goes through their tough times and things like that. Just to see him get through all of that and for this to happen it's just amazing."

Shane Lowry's win moves him up to 17th in the world and surely there are more majors in the future for the Offaly man.
