Virtual Insanity! John Duggan's Golf Tips for the Honda Classic

Welcome to week eight of Virtual Insanity, where we spend virtual money to try and win virtual money on golf betting. It's that simple!

The pot is at €915 entering this week's tournament of focus, the Honda Classic on the US PGA Tour in Florida.

The Honda Classic is played at PGA National, a tough golf course that hosted the 1987 PGA Championship. It's a par 70, requiring strong tee-to-green play. There's water to be negotiated and it can get windy.

This week's event starts at Noon Irish time on Thursday.

Our first selection is Billy Horschel for €3 each way at 25/1. (1/5 the odds the first 8 places).

American Horschel is a very streaky player and I remember him winning the Tour Championship a few years ago off the back of a victory on his previous start. His ball-striking is his asset and he is in form, with a top 10 finishes in Phoenix and last week in Mexico on his last two starts. Horschel also has good finishes at the Honda on his resume; he's been tied fourth and tied eighth there before. He fits all the parameters and I think he's a decent each-way play.

Our second selection is Tommy Fleetwood for €3 each way at 12/1. (1/5 the odds the first 8 places).

It's hard to believe that Englishman Fleetwood has never won on the US PGA Tour, and surely it's only a matter of when, not if, that changes. Fleetwood's form in Europe has been exceptional and he's got an excellent long game. On his only previous start at the Honda, he finished fourth. Fleetwood has form on the Bermuda putting surfaces in Florida and is a former US Open runner up and European number one, so he has the class to take this.

Our third selection is Emiliano Grillo for €2 each way at 80/1. (1/4 the odds the first 5 places).

The Argentine enters this week off the back of a third-place at last week's Puerto Rico Open, a welcome return to contention. Grillo has one victory to his name on the PGA Tour. Once again, his driving and irons are his strong points, and that's what the PGA National places a premium on rather than putting. Sometimes staying out of trouble is what's required. Grillo was tied eighth at the 2018 Honda Classic and played well the previous year before a closing 77. I think he's capable of another good showing.

Our final selection this week is Lee Kyoung Hoon for €2 each way at 100/1. (1/5 the odds the first 8 places).

KH Lee is a straight hitter who has finished inside the top 15 on his last two starts. On his sole appearance at the Honda Classic last year, he was tied for seventh, hitting 69 percent of greens. He's graduated up the ranks after finishing 5th on the Korn Ferry Tour money list in 2018. With both track and recent form boxes ticked, he could be a lively outsider.

So that's €20 wagered on this week's golf.

Please gamble responsibly, never bet more than you can afford and good luck!
