Having been on the brink on so many occasions, Mayo fans will travel to Croke Park to take on the Dubs on Sunday hoping to leave over 60 years of disappointment behind.
Mayo manager Stephen Rochford believes that after coming close on so many occasions in the past 20 years, the squad is ready to put this historical baggage to one side ahead of the final:
"The novelty in getting to finals, sort of, it’s gone," he told Off The Ball.
"I feel that myself and the players we’re experienced enough now to be able to sort of withdraw ourselves from it," he added, speaking to Kevin Kilbane.
He believes that Galway's hurlers have shown the best way to manage this kind of pressure:
"You look to remove yourself, that’s part of your own build up and your own prep' is to not be taken over by the emotion of it. You look at Galway last week in the hurling, they went about it ... they could have got wrapped up in the whole emotion of it before hand and they had a lot of their own stories very close to the camp be it in Tony Keady, or Niall Donoghue.
"They understood that the best way of being able to recognise those people is delivering that performance and not getting wrapped in the emotion during or pregame and let it flow for what it is then afterwards, but be the right side of the result."
