Ideally, Alan Quinlan would have preferred dealing with any of Irish provinces other than Munster when it came to breaking down this weekend's Champions Cup action on OTB AM.
Whereas Ulster and Leinster picked up impressive wins on Friday and Saturday evening respectively, and Connacht recorded back-to-back defeats of Perpignan in the Challenge Cup, it was Munster who were left disappointed after their visit to the wet and windy south of France.
Winners in their earlier tie against Castres in Thomond Park, Johann van Graan's side were stung in the weekend's reverse tie.
Although Quinlan was quick to point out Munster's shortcomings in play, the former Irish international was left frustrated with the nature of Castres' performance, as well that from match referee, Wayne Barnes.
"I thought Castres' discipline was a disgrace and they were a disgrace and I have no problem saying that," Quinlan explained.
"If that's the way they want to play rugby then the authorities have to deal with it.
"Their ambition with the ball last week in Thomond Park was deplorable and they went out to beat Munster up."
Accusing Barnes of having "lost control" during the Champions Cup clash, Quinlan believed that the referee's Welsh contemporary would have had a better handle on things.
"I guarantee you if Nigel Owens was reffing that game, both captains would have been called out, 'There are things going on and if it continues I'm going to take action' and then the next fella that does it is gone," Quinlan stated.
Documenting a list of incidents that occurred throughout Saturday's game in Castres' favour, Quinlan was careful to point out that this was far from a case of 'former player defends own team.'
Calling upon van Graan to publicly criticise the shortcomings of the officials, Alan Quinlan understood that it is more likely things will be done in a quieter manner.
