Ulster ban spectator for life over Zebo abuse

Ulster Rugby have issued a life-time ban to a spectator following an investigation into abuse aimed at Simon Zebo.

The former Munster and Ireland wing was in action for Racing 92 on January 12th against Ulster in the Heineken Champions Cup.

After the match, the Cork man posted a message on Instagram, highlighting remarks he had heard from the stands.

"A tough place to play but great effort from the boys, two important points on the road. Also I hope my ears deceived me with some comments directed my way from the crowd. #NotOn. Django wins in the end," he wrote.

The reference to "Django", from Hollywood film, Django Unchained, hinted at a racist element to the abuse.

Following a "robust investigation", Ulster confirmed that they have banned a spectator for life for "breaching stadium regulations".

Statement

"Following a robust investigation into allegations of abuse directed at Simon Zebo during the fixture versus Racing 92 on Saturday 12th January, Ulster Rugby has sanctioned a life-time ban on a spectator, for breaching our stadium regulations.

"We would like to thank the many supporters who provided information to assist our investigation.

"We are all very proud of our reputation as an inclusive club and the unacceptable behaviour of this one individual is not reflective of our supporters, or the values of our club."

Ulster also added that they "have issued a written apology to Simon Zebo and Racing 92."

Zebo has responded to Ulster's statement on Twitter, writing "Thank you".
