Tommy Bowe: "They tried to take on Ireland physically - Ireland matched them and sent them packing"

Tommy Bowe has hailed Joe Schmidt's Ireland side after they kept New Zealand tryless to record a 16-9 win over the World Champions at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday.

It's Ireland's second ever win over the All Blacks and the second under the stewardship of Schmidt.

"We have trained for that," Bowe told Adrian Barry at the #AvivaFanStudio after the game. "Ever since they scored that try in the corner (in 2013) - we now train at the end of training sessions where we train for five minutes with no break - literally over and over again - you just can't get air and it showed. It showed there - the work rate. People calling, the communication - it was a phenomenal performance.

"Individually, every player, the things that they did - the tackles, putting their bodies on the line - it's hard to really put it into words.

"To beat the All Blacks in Chicago was phenomenal but to beat them at home in front of the Irish people and with the year that they've had - it's amazing."

Much had been made of New Zealand's approach to the 2016 clash in Dublin, when two high tackles in particular, didn't receive the appropriate disciplinary action and they avenged the loss in Chicago two weeks previous.

However, Bowe believes Ireland's controlled aggression matched what the visitors brought to the clash and ultimately, saw the men in green home. "They looked wrecked. Honestly, I thought the All Blacks looked really tired out there and it just showed.

"They tried to take on Ireland physically - Ireland matched them and sent them packing"
